Five lights guard a hundred miles of barrier island, and each one has a town around it. Currituck's red brick at the top in Corolla. Bodie Island's stripes south of Nags Head. Cape Hatteras, the tallest in the country, moved half a mile inland in 1999 and still standing. Ocracoke's white tower at the end of the ferry.
